Recurrence quantification analysis of postural sway in patients with persistent postural perceptual dizziness

چکیده

Background Persistent postural perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is a common cause of chronic and imbalance. Emerging evidence suggests that changes in quantitative measures control may help identify individuals with PPPD, however, traditional linear metrics sway have yielded inconsistent results. Methodologies to examine the temporal structure sway, including recurrent quantification analysis (RQA), identified unique dynamic other patient populations. This study aimed determine if adults PPPD exhibit whether this change modulated on basis available sensory cues. Methods Twelve diagnosed twelve age-matched controls, completed standard battery quiet stance balance tasks involved manipulation visual and/or proprioceptive feedback. For each group, regularity complexity CoP signal was assessed using RQA magnitude variability quantified measures. Results An overall effect participant group (i.e., healthy controls vs. PPPD) seen for non-linear RQA. Changes determinism regularity) were also availability cues patients PPPD. No between-group difference assessing amount sway. Conclusions Participants average exhibited similar to, but significantly more repeatable less complex than, controls. These data show provide information regarding control, as result, serve potential rehabilitation outcome

Clinical characteristics of patients with persistent postural-perceptual dizziness.

INTRODUCTION Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness is the dizziness that lasts for over three months with no clinical explanation for its persistence. The patient's motor response pattern presents changes and most patients manifest significant anxiety. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients with persistent postural and perceptual dizziness. METHODS statistical ana...

Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness: A Matter of Higher, Central Dysfunction?

OBJECTIVE Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is the most common vestibular disorder in the age group between 30 and 50 years. It is considered to be based on a multisensory maladjustment involving alterations of sensory response pattern including vestibular, visual and motion stimuli. Previous data supported a link between vestibular and pain mechanism. The aim of the study was to ...

Recurrence quantification analysis of postural fluctuations.

A technique (recurrence quantification analysis; RQA) for analyzing center of pressure (COP) signals is presented and applied to data obtained by having participants stand with the head forward or sideways and with eyes open or closed. RQA is suitable for short, nonstationary signals and quantifies dynamical (deterministic) structure and nonstationarity. Results indicated that vision affects th...

Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD): a common, characteristic and treatable cause of chronic dizziness.

Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is a newly defined diagnostic syndrome that unifies key features of chronic subjective dizziness, phobic postural vertigo and related disorders. It describes a common chronic dysfunction of the vestibular system and brain that produces persistent dizziness, non-spinning vertigo and/or unsteadiness. The disorder constitutes a long-term maladaptatio...
